Description | This package contains exim 3, an outdated version of the exim Mail Transport Agent. This package is not going to be updated any more, and its users are encouraged to update to exim4, the current version of exim, or to migrate towards an entirely different MTA. . There is no automated update path from exim 3 to exim4 since the configuration formats are rather different. Debian's exim4 packages will try to pre-seed their debconf questions from an exim 3 configuration that is found on the system. This will work fine for an exim 3 configuration created by eximconfig, the configuration tool used by Debian's exim 3 packages. If you have manually tweaked your exim 3 configuration, you'll most probably need to tweak your new exim 4 configuration as well. . The exim 4 README.Debian file installed to /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/README.Debian.* has more information about updating from exim 3. |
